• Can I build a carport over my drain field?
  Unfortunately, that’s a very bad idea. Not only will it compact the soil and potentially damage the pipes, it’s inevitable that at some point, the drain field is going to need to be repaired in some way, and then, the only way to get to it will be to destroy your carport.
• Rainwater from my house is being directed at my drain field – is that a problem, or no?
  This absolutely is a problem. Your down spouts should be redirected away from the drain field as soon as possible.  The excess water this introduces to the area dramatically reduces the efficiency of the drain field and reduces its ability to process effluent from the septic tank.
• I have no idea when the last time my septic system was serviced. What should I do?
  If you’re not sure, the best way to avoid a big, unexpected repair bill is to call an arrange service and inspection immediately.  As Centreville VA’s premier septic tank pumping and service company, this is one of the most common services we perform for our clients.
  Once you’ve had it serviced, a good rule of thumb is to do it again every three to five years.
• Can I put landscape fabric or mulch over the drain field?
  It isn’t a good idea, because doing so will reduce, if not almost completely eliminate the air exchange in the drain field’s soil, which is crucial for processing the effluent coming from your tank.
• How big a risk do the trees in my yard pose to my septic system?
  As long as the trees are at least 30 feet away from your drain field, the risk should be minimal, although this depends on the exact species of tree and the composition of your soil. The “30 feet or more” rule is a good general guideline, however.
