Gainesville VA Septic Tank Pumping

Home septic system questions and problems come in all shapes and sizes.  We’ve been in the business since 1997, and as Gainesville VA’s leading septic tank pumping and service company, there’s not much we haven’t seen at this point.

If you have a question relating to your home septic system, but weren’t sure who to ask, you’ve come to the right place.

Below, you’ll find a small sampling of the questions we’re received over the years.  If yours is on this list, great.  If not, feel free to give us a call!

Q:  How do I know if my septic system is working properly?

A: It’s a great question, because most people don’t even think about their home septic system until something starts to go wrong.  The answer is periodic maintenance.

On average, it’s a good idea to have your tank pumped about every 3-5 years, and while you’re doing that, it’s a great opportunity to have the entire system inspected.  That way, if there are problems, a professional can spot them while they’re still small, and as such, easily and inexpensively repaired.

Advantage is Gainesville VA’s premier septic tank pumping and service company, and this is something we regularly do for our clients.  We’d be more than happy to help you as well!  Note that routine maintenance and periodic pumping and inspection is also the best and most cost-effective way of making sure you don’t have to make those middle of the night emergency calls!

Q: If my septic system is malfunctioning, is there a risk of contamination?

A:  Unfortunately, the answer here is absolutely yes.  You can contaminate your own water supply if you have a well on your property, and perhaps even your neighbor’s water supply.  If your untreated waste reaches a nearby stream, the problem could get much, much worse.  Untreated waste poses a number of serious health risks.

Q:  What kinds of things shouldn’t I be pouring down the drain?

A:  That’s an easy question to answer.  Water is the only thing that should be going down the drain.  Anything else:  oil, grease, fat, small table scraps, coffee grounds, and the like, will only collect in your septic tank and cause you problems in the long term.

Q: We have a horse.  Is it okay if he grazes on the grass over the drain field?

A: It’s not a good idea.  For one thing, if the drain field is malfunctioning, then the ground might contain contaminants, and even if it doesn’t, the weight of the horse will compact the soil, which will degrade the functioning of it, causing it to process effluent more slowly.

Didn’t see your question here?  That’s okay.  Just call Gainesville VA’s leading septic tank pumping and service company, and we’re happy to help.  We’re ready to serve you, day or night!
